(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Today (February 17, 2018) inside the Connor Convocation Center the Thomas More College Saints won their first regular President Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship outright since the 2009 season, which means they will host the PAC Tournament this upcoming week (2/19/18-2/24/18). The Saints took on PAC opponent Washington and Jefferson College and won 92-70 which improved their final regular season record to 20-5 overall and 16-2 in the PAC.
The Saints were not looking to just celebrate their three seniors today but they were looking to celebrate their first regular season PAC Championship since the 2009 season. From the tip, the Saints seemed to be playing with a spark. Clicking on offense tonight the Saints put up more points in the first half (60) then they did all of last game (50) while shooting 72.7%. Senior center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky/ Dupont Manual) made his presence known in the paint has he finished with the game high 26 points and six rebounds.
Along with Clifford the Saints had 10 other players reach the scoring column and two reached double digits. Junior guard Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky/ Rowan County) and sophomore guard Max Knisley (Washington Courthouse, Oh/ Washington) both finished the game with 11 points. The other two seniors Austin Young (Campbellsville, Ky/ Henry County) finished with five points and Michael Griffin (Crestwood, Ky/ South Oldham) finished with nine points.
Talking with Player of the Game sophomore guard Max Knisley we asked him what it meant to play big minutes in a game that had big importance and what the win meant to the team. "We really wanted to get a win today so we could secure the outright PAC title which was a team goal this year. I just wanted to get in there and be a positive impact for my team and just trust the system and what we have been doing in practice all year. It felt great to see some shots fall and I'm just really happy for all my brothers."
The Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College had 10 players reach the scoring column and two reached double digits. The team leader Sean Stinelli finished with 19 points while Brain Lindquist finished with 14 points. With the loss Washington and Jefferson finished the season 5-20 overall and 4-14 in the PAC.
With the regular season, all wrapped up the Saints next game will be the start of their post season schedule. The Saints will be at home to start off the PAC Tournament, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 as they will play the number eight seed Thiel College in the conference. Tip off will be at 7 p.m.
