(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team fell to Transylvania 3-2 in overtime tonight (Sept. 20). This was the second game in a row for the Saints going in to overtime. With the loss, Thomas More falls to 3-3-1 and with the win, Transylvania keeps their perfect season alive moving to 6-0.
Thomas More scored the first goal from Suli Kayed in the 14th minute taking the lead 1-0. The Pioneers countered with a goal in the 15th minute tying the score 1-1. Transylvania kept their momentum going scoring another goal in the 34th minute. Thomas More's Ibra Goumballe battled back for the Saints scoring in the 40th minute with an assist from Hrusto Selimovic tying the match going in to halftime, 2-2.
The second half had no scoring, but was not lacking in action. The Saints committed numerous fouls, resulting in two yellow cards and a red card on Adam Mathews. Transylvania had the advantage in shots and shots on goal, 20-11 and 8-4. However, Thomas More had more saves (5-2) and less fouls (4-6) overall.
Transylvania took advantage in golden goal overtime scoring in the first minute (90:28) and ending the game, 3-2.
The Saints are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23 hosting Capital. The match is set to start at 3:30 PM.
