Thomas More Sweeps Two Games in Florida

(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) – The Thomas More College softball team won a pair of games today (Friday, March 10, 2017) on its final day at the Rebel Springs Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.  The Saints defeated St. Joseph's (L.I.) College 8-6 and Rhodes College 3-1.

With the two wins the Saints return to Northern Kentucky with a 7-3 record.

In the game against St. Joseph's, Thomas More scored four runs in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth, while holding St. Joseph's to two runs in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 8-6 victory.  Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Bonne County) earned the win as she pitched five innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits, while striking out six.  Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) pitched two innings of relief and gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits and struck out two.

Junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with a run scored and a run batted-in.  First-year designated player Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and RBI and sophomore right fielder Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-three with a double, two stolen bases, a run scored and two RBI.

In the win over Rhodes, the Saints scored one run in the first, third and sixth innings and held the Lynx to a run in the first for the 3-1 win.  DeDreu earned the win in the circle as she pitched all seven innings and gave up one run (unearned) on four hits and struck out six.

Knotts led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with two RBI.  Finke was two-for-four with a triple and a run scored, Dickerson was two-for-three with a double and sophomore third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was two-for-three with a run scored.

Thomas More is idle until March 18 when it travels to New Concord, Ohio to play Muskingum University in a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
