(TUCSON, Ariz) – The Thomas More College softball team took on day two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Arizona today looking to bounce back from two tough losses in day one. The Saints took on Pacific Lutheran in game one, falling 11-7, and Fontbonne in game two, winning 13-4 in six innings. With the win, the Saints are 1-3 overall heading into day three of the Classic.
In the first game, Alix DeDreu was on the mound for the Saints, allowing 14 hits and 11 runs. Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) went 4-for-4 in hitting, recording one homerun, two singles, a double, and one RBI. Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) went 2-for-5 in batting, recording one single and one double. Finke also recorded a successful stolen base in the third inning. Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) also went 4-for-4 in batting, with four singles and two RBI's.
In the second game of the day, the Saints took down Fontbonne, 13-4. Dallis Knotts was on the mound for the Saints, giving up only eight hits and four runs allowed. Gahan went 4-4 at the plate, three singles, one homerun, and four RBI's. Mary Beth Odom went 2-4 at the plate, hitting a homerun along with three RBI's. Alix DeDreu went 3-4, hitting two singles and safe on a fielder's choice. Kenzi Dickerson went 2-4, hitting a single and a double. The Saints hit 17 hits, scoring 13 runs.
The Saints are back in action tomorrow, March 4, taking on St. John Fisher and Illinois Wesleyan in day three of the NFCA Classic. The first game will be at 4:00 PM EST.
