TMC Third at PAC Championship; Yenter and Jones Are PAC Champions

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The Thomas More College wrestling team finished third today (Saturday, February 10, 2018) at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship hosted by Waynesburg University at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

Thomas More tallied 66.5 points to trail Waynesburg University (107.5) and Washington & Jefferson College (99.5).

First-year Tanner Yenter (California, Ky./Campbell County) and sophomore Avery Jones (Amelia, Ohio/Glen Este) were PAC Champions in their respective weight classes.  Yenter won the 133 weight class as he had pins in 2:37 and 2:37 and then had a 2-0 decision in the championship match.  Jones had a pin in 6:00, a 9-7 decision and won the 184 championship match with a pin in 5:25.

Three Saints finished second in their weight classes.  First-year Jimmy Murphy (Milford, Ohio/Milford) finished second at 125 with a 6-2 decision win and an 8-5 decision loss in the championship match.  First-year Jimmy Traub (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) had a bye into the championship match at 157, but fell in a 3-1 decision.  Sophomore Andrew Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) finished second at 165 as he had a 3-1 sudden victory, but fell by a 10-3 decision in the championship match.

First-year Kenny Byers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) finished third at 133 has he opened with a 7-2 decision win and an 18-2 technical fall loss, but rallied and had a pin in 3:30 and a 4-2 decision win in the third place match.

First-year Brady Wells (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) finished fourth at 125, first-year Tyler Sarreshteh (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) was fourth at 141, first-year Andrew Tevis (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) was fourth at 149, first-year Gunnar Dawson (Madison, Ohio/Madison) was fourth at 174 and first-year Ryan Hatcher (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) was fourth at 285.

The Saints return to the mats on February 23 and 24 when they travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional hosted by Wabash College.
