(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The top-seeded Thomas More College women's soccer team advanced to the championship match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament as it defeated fourth-seeded Chatham University, 2-1, today (Tuesday, October 31, 2017) in a semifinal match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-4-1 and advance to play second-seeded Grove City College in the championship match. Grove City was a 2-1 winner over third-seeded Washington & Jefferson College in the other semifinal match. The championship match will be on Friday (November 3) at 2 p.m. at BB&T Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 11-6-1.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute when senior midfielder Cori Ziegler (California, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Kaitlyn Armentrout (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills). Sophomore forward Shaye Isaacs (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine) headed in a corner kick by first-year forward Ashley Maples (Springboro, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) in the 73rd minute to increase the lead to 2-0. Chatham's Julie Bruening scored in the 86th minute, but it wasn't enough as the Saints won the match 2-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Kim (California, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) earned the win in goal as she played all 90 minutes and had three saves.
Thomas More out-shot Chatham 16-7, including 12-4 on goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 4-3.
