Thomas More Defeats Rival Mount St. Joseph, 7-2, in Season Opener

(PARK HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College women's tennis team defeated across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph, 7-2, today (Wednesday, September 4, 2013) in both teams' season opener at the Notre Dame Academy Courts in Park Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 1-0 and with the loss, the Lions fall to 0-1.

Thomas More led 2-1 after doubles action as the No. 2 tandem of freshman Anna Hetzer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and freshman Jenny Block (Sellerburg, Ind./Silver Creek) won 8-0 and the No. 3 team of freshman Melissa McMullen (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) and freshman Madison White (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) won, 8-1.

The Saints won five the six singles matches as senior Maria Pascual (Carrollton, Ky./Christian Academy of Carrollton) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, Block won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2, Hetzer won at No. 4 by the scores of 6-, 6-0, McMullen won 6-0-6-1 at No. 5 and White won at No. 6 by the scores of 6-0, 6-0.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (September 7) when it travels to Bethany, West Virginia for a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches.  The Saints play host Bethany College at 10 a.m. and Chatham University at 2 p.m.
