Thomas More Sweeps Maryville, 3-0, in Nightcap of the Opening Day of the Wrublewski Tournament

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team swept Maryville (Tenn.) College, 3-0, tonight (Friday, September 7, 2012) in its final match of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-4 overall and with the loss, the Scots fall to 4-3 on the season.

The Saints won the match by the scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-20.  Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) paced the offense with 33 assists.  Senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) led the team in kills with 10, while sophomore outside hitter/right side Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) added seven, junior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) finished with five and freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) and freshman outside hitter/right side Aprill Jackson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) each had five kills.

Sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the Saints' defense with 19 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) had 16 and Verville finished with 14.

The Saints close out the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament tomorrow when they play Birmingham Southern University at 11 a.m. and the host Lions at 5 p.m.
