(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team swept across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph, 3-0, today (Saturday, September 8, 2012) in the final match of the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational host by Mount St. Joseph at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With the win, the Saints improve to 6-4 overall. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-4 overall.
Thomas More won the match by the scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23. The Saints finished second at the tournament with a 3-1 record and only trailed Heidelberg University (4-0) in the tournament standings.
Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) paced the Saints' offense with 38 assists. Thomas More had two players with double-digit kills as sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) had 14 and senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished with 11. Sophomore outside hitter/right side Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) finished with seven kills, while freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) had six.
Defensively, the Saints were led by sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) with 18 digs, while Cronin added sophomore defensive specilaist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) each had nine. Verville, Knaley and junior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) each finished with two blocks each.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 12) when it hosts Bluffton University at 7 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
